The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) is deeply saddened by the tragic killing of one of our members, Mr. Joel Adesiyan during the violent attack on schools in the Ahoro-Esinele community.

The Union also condemned in strong terms the kidnapping of the Principal, Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mrs. Rachael Alamu and some pupils.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves across the education sector, represents yet another painful reminder of the dangers faced by teachers in the line of duty.
The Union has received confirmation that the slain teacher was wearing the official NUT uniform at the time of the attack—a symbol of service, commitment, and dedication to the noble profession of teaching.
This makes the loss even more heartbreaking, as he died while actively serving the nation and its children.
We condemn, in the strongest terms, this senseless act of violence.
No teacher should ever pay the ultimate price simply for carrying out their sacred responsibility to educate and nurture the future of our country.
The NUT stands in solidarity with the family of our departed colleague, the affected school community, and all teachers who continue to serve under threatening conditions.
We mourn with heavy hearts and extend our deepest condolences to his spouse, children, relatives, and professional colleagues.
May they be strengthened during this devastating period.
The Union calls on government at all levels to intensify security around schools, especially in vulnerable communities while charging the government to intesify efforts at ensuring safe return of colleague and children in captivity
Teachers must not be left unprotected. The safety of educators is integral to the survival of the education system itself.
We remain committed to supporting the bereaved family, advocating for justice, and ensuring that the memory of our fallen colleague is honoured with action, not just words.
Signed:
Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai,
Chairman,
Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State.
