An aspirant for the House of Representatives for 00 Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa Federal Constituency seat and a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State , Ayo Akinyemi, has resigned from the party and formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in what appears to be part of an ongoing political realignment within the state and beyond.

Akinyemi, who until his resignation on Wednesday served as Chairman of the ADC Membership Registration and Membership Revalidation (MRMR) Committee in Oyo State, and State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement

His defection followed recent realignment involving Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and a key figure in the ADC coalition who recently aligned with the NDC.

With this development, members of the Obidient Movement have similarly begun shifting in the same direction.Akinyemi, regarded as a close ally and supporter of Obi, played a notable role in mobilising grassroots backing for the Obidient Movement across Oyo State during the 2023 general elections.

In his resignation letter, he cited evolving political dynamics as a key factor in his decision, noting that his move was informed by “new political alignments and the need to continue the struggle for a new Nigeria on a broader platform.”

He also expressed appreciation to the ADC leadership in Oyo State, particularly the State Chairman, Alhaji Yinka Olona, stating: “I sincerely appreciate the leadership of Alhaji Yinka Olona, for his steadfastness , guidance, support, and commitment to the growth of the party during my time in the ADC.”
