


The ambition of Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige to represent Oyo South Senatorial district in the 2027 general elections received a significant boost on Tuesday, as he secured the overwhelming nod of key stakeholders within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a high-stakes consultative drive, Hon. Ige met separately with the Oyo South Senatorial Executive at the party’s Oke Ado office and the Ibadan North West PDP “Apex Body” at the Council Secretariat in Onireke.
The meetings served as a platform for Ige to formally declare his intent and seek the synergy of the party structure across the district’s nine local government areas.
Addressing the party hierarchy, Hon. Ige emphasized that his candidacy is rooted in service and party loyalty.
According to him, “I cannot do it alone; that is why I am soliciting your support. As you know. I have held several political offices that have prepared me for this role. I will never disconnect myself from the party that provides the platform, and I am here to serve as your representative.” He said.
He was accompanied by a robust delegation of supporters, including Hon. Yusuf Temitope Ali (Supreme), Hon. Ezekiel Oluwole, and Engr. Sulaiman Adesina, among others.
The consultation drew an array of PDP heavyweights who were vocal in their praise for Ige’s track record. Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Oyo State, described Ige as a “reliable politician” and a “perfect example” of the grassroots popularity required for victory.
“Ige is good to a fault. He has deep respect for the party, and he is a candidate the party can confidently field,” Adeleke remarked.
Other leaders echoed these sentiments:
Hon. Funmilayo Orisadeyi, former Commissioner, highlighted his accessibility: “He is an honest person, accommodating and kind. He will not get to power and disconnect from his people.”
Others who spoke include Hon. Kunmi Adesina, Alhaji Lukman Adesina Alaga Mewa, Hon. Ramoni Adepoju Chairman Ibadan North West local government, Alhaji Labule Ishola, Hon. Femi Josiah, Hohn. Tallest, High Chief Oladokun Saubana from Ibarapa, lauded his temperament, noting his “spirit of giving and forgiveness as well as his verifiable track record as a primary asset for the 2027 polls.
The gatherings were attended by prominent figures including Senatorial Chairman Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe, State Publicity Secretary Hon. Michael Ogunsina, state youth leader, Alhaji Oladejo Taofeek, Ibadan North West council Chairman Alhaji Rahmon Adepoju and Hon. Fantola Kazeem party chairman.
All the Leaders noted that his popularity and established antecedents make him a formidable standard-bearer capable of securing victory for the PDP in the Oyo South Senatorial District.
As the 2027 race begins to take shape, Hon. Ige’s successful consultation has firmly positioned him as a frontrunner with the vital backing of the party’s “Apex” machinery.
