Property owners from six local government areas along the Ibadan Circular Road corridor today staged a peaceful protest at the Oyo State Secretariat, urging the government to reconsider the proposed expansion of the road corridor beyond the approved 150 metres.

The protesters, drawn from Akinyele, Oluyole, Egbeda, Lagelu, Ona-Ara and Ido Local Government Areas, carried placards with messages such as “We are begging Governor Makinde,” appealing to the state government to halt the planned expansion.

The Coordinator and Secretary of the Ibadan Circular Road Communities Representatives, Niyi Fasoye, appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to honour his 2024 promise that no houses would be demolished.

One of the protesters, a landlady, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Fijabi, who said the road itself is a good development, but the expanded corridor should be left out urged Governor Makinde to execute the project within the original boundaries.

The residents also refuted claims that the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, provided financial assistance to those affected by the project, alleging that any support given was limited to his political supporters, not the wider community
