The admonition was contained in a congratulatory message by Chief (Mrs) Olayinka Lantinwo, the Iya Oba of Isin Land on the occasion of the October 1st, 65th anniversary independence of the nation.
According to her, the nation despite its challenges since independence has continued to move from one stage to the other in terms collective purpose, unity and progress.
“As we celebrate this remarkable milestone today October 1st, it is important to reflect on the journey so far — our triumphs and challenges alike. Our diversity, when harnessed positively, remains our greatest strength and the bedrock of our unity.
“We must continue to uphold the values of truth, justice, equity, and love for one another — values that will ensure that the labour of our heroes past would never be in vain.
“On this day of national pride, we salute our leaders, our gallant security agencies, our hardworking farmers, traders, teachers, professionals, artisans, youths, and every Nigerian who contributes daily to the growth and survival of this great nation. Let us renew our pledge to build a Nigeria where every citizen can thrive, where peace and justice reign, and where the hopes of future generations are secured.
Chief Mrs Olatinwo pointed out that our founding fathers Sixty-five years ago, fought with courage, wisdom, and resilience to secure for us the priceless gift of independence adding that their vision was rooted in hope — hope for a country that would stand tall among the comity of nations, blessed with abundant natural resources, rich cultural heritage, and a people whose determination to succeed remains unmatched.
“Sixty-five years ago, our forefathers, through resilience, unity of purpose, and divine providence, secured for us the priceless gift of freedom and sovereignty. This landmark achievement not only placed Nigeria on the global map of independent nations but also gave us a foundation upon which successive generations continue to build. Today, we honor their sacrifices and remember the legacy of unity and patriotism they bequeathed to us.
“As a nation, we have come a long way. We have endured challenges, weathered storms, and faced trials that have tested our resolve. Yet, through it all, Nigeria continues to stand firm, a testament to the indomitable spirit of her citizens. From the far North to the deep South, from the East to the West, Nigerians have continued to demonstrate resilience, ingenuity, and the unwavering will to thrive despite adversity.
“This day is not only a reminder of our independence but also a call to renew our collective commitment to the ideals of unity, peace, justice, and progress. We must continue to embrace diversity as our strength, nurture love for our fatherland, and contribute in our various capacities towards the building of the Nigeria of our dreams — a Nigeria where equity reigns, opportunities abound, and every citizen can proudly call home.
“As we raise our flags high and sing the national anthem with pride, let us also raise our hopes for a brighter future. May this anniversary inspire us to work together in unity of purpose, to rebuild broken systems, strengthen our democracy, uphold the rule of law, and foster economic growth that will uplift the lives of all Nigerians.
On this auspicious day, I extend heartfelt congratulations to every Nigerian at home and abroad. May God bless our leaders with wisdom, guide our nation on the path of peace, and crown our collective efforts with prosperity, she added
