The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Oyo State chapter, Honourable Nwabunike Okey Umeh, has described Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as an outstanding leader whose administration has transformed the state and improved the lives of residents.
Umeh gave the commendation in Ibadan while speaking on the strides and achievements of Governor Makinde since assuming office in 2019.
“By my assessment, the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has been outstanding, with visible physical development across the state. I have lived in Oyo State for over 30 years and I can confidently say that his administration has recorded remarkable progress. He has done greatly, and if we are sincere with ourselves, most people will agree,” Umeh stated.
He described the governor as a “silent achiever” whose leadership style is defined by results rather than noise.
On the governor’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, Umeh noted: “While other states rushed to shut down businesses and markets, Makinde adopted a unique and humane approach. He ensured that people did not suffer unnecessarily. We saw in him an enlightened leader with foresight.”
Highlighting some of Makinde’s policies, Umeh said:
Infrastructure: “His ‘zero pothole policy’ and massive road projects have transformed Oyo State. Even visitors now say Ibadan is overtaking Lagos.”
Security: “The Light Up Oyo project has improved security, reduced night-time crime, and boosted nightlife businesses.”
Education: “With new teachers employed and improvements in public schools, the education sector is gradually competing with private institutions.”
Real Estate and Business Growth: “Makinde’s policies have boosted the real estate sector and created a business-friendly environment, especially for the Igbo community.”
Speaking on the relationship between the Igbo community and the governor, Umeh emphasized Makinde’s detribalized nature. “He treats all residents as one, irrespective of ethnic background, and this has fostered peaceful coexistence in Oyo State,” he said.
He further commended the modern parks initiative, especially at Iwo Road, which, according to him, has improved transportation, curbed the activities of miscreants, and provided structured opportunities for youths.
Umeh concluded by describing Makinde as a visionary, pragmatic, and people-oriented governor who has lived up to his promises. “He has truly done justice to his title, His Excellency,” he declared.
