The online media in the report stated among other things that a particular Head of Department (whose name and department were not mentioned) attempted to rape an NCE graduate (whose name was not mentioned), who reportedly came to collect her result.

According to a release issued and signed by Wale Adeoye

Media and Public Relations Officer of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo on 9 August, 2025  they have carefully read the story and its content which was published in bad faith, and  the University authority wishes to state as follows:

1. The University Management did not receive any complaint from any NCE graduate of our institution on any matter relating to an attempt to rape by any Head of Department.

2. That our University, known as a reputable institution will never get a report of this magnitude and cover it up.

3. It is very unfortunate that the correspondent who went into defaming the image of an over 150-year old institution with the report, did not balance his report with a thorough investigation as he did not engage either the accused HOD or the Registrar of the institution whose door is always widely opened.

He only succeeded in going to the press with fictitious information targeted at destroying the image of the institution.

4. While no information was given to the Management to work on, the Vice-Chancellor still directed that the matter should be investigated. The worst aspect of it is that the reporter maintained that he can never disclose the identity of the complainant who reached out to him.

5. The Latin maxim “affirmanti, non neganti, incumbit probatio” which translates to “the burden of proof lies upon the one who asserts, not upon the one who denies” comes to mind. If Legit.ng is not out to tarnish the hard earned image of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, it is incumbent on them to assist the process of investigation.

6. It is important to state that the University Management is keenly interested in building a university of repute, and will not tolerate any act that is capable of bringing the name of the university into disrepute. Therefore, at no time has any university leadership appealed to any graduate to cover any allegation up.

7. Legit.ng correspondent, in the report noted that “in this series of reports, investigated the abuse of power by some male lecturers of the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, who weaponise grades to get sex from their “chosen” female students…..”, which has never been brought to the attention of the University Management.

8. It is premised on these clarifications that the University, while clearly stating our interest in investigating the matter, if it is true, hereby directs the management of Legit.ng to withdraw this unsubstantiated and unfounded news from circulation within 48 hours or risk the institution of a legal action against the company.

We appreciate all media houses and members of the public who have genuinely reached out to us on this matter. Together we shall build a just society and our university is ready to play our own parts in nation building.
