
The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Oyo State Chapter, Hon. Okechukwu Nwabunike Umeh, has expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Igbo community in the state over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, who died at the age of 90 in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.
In a condolence statement, Hon. Umeh described the late monarch as a royal father and leader of impeccable character, whose brief reign brought peace and development to Ibadan and Oyo State as a whole.
The statement reads:
“On behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Oyo State Chapter, I express our heartfelt condolences on the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, whose life touched the hearts and lives of many.
“His departure is a significant loss, not just for Ibadan but for all who respected his wisdom, leadership, and unwavering commitment to cultural preservation.
“Though he ascended the throne just a year ago, Oba Olakulehin’s impact was immediate and lasting. His presence inspired pride and unity across communities. He believed deeply in collaboration, often reminding us that a king’s greatness lies in the legacy he leaves behind.
“Oba Olakulehin has indeed left a rich legacy of unity, mutual respect, and cultural pride—values we must continue to uphold.
“As we mourn this monumental loss, let us draw strength from the lessons his reign taught us: leadership rooted in humility, service to the people, and a deep reverence for culture.
“We also extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Ibadan community, and all who mourn him. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to guide future generations toward love and unity.”
Hon. Umeh further prayed for God’s comfort upon the monarch’s immediate family, the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan indigenes, and the entire people of Oyo State, urging them to find strength and solace in the legacy Oba Olakulehin has left behind.
