A leader from Oke Ogun, Chief Bisi Oguntunde has called on the Federal Government to extend the lagos-ibadan rail tracks to Oke-Ogun, not only to allow sense of belonging, but to promote business activities in Oke-Ogun region.
Chief Oguntunde who was exchanging views with newsmen in Okeho said the move, if carried out, would bring the needed progress and development to the zone which is currently without any federal presence.
“Apart from promoting a sense of belonging, the extension of the rail tracks would attract businessmen and women from within and outside the region to move to the zone to emback on one business activities or the other.”
Beside, since Oke-Ogun is mostly an agrarian zone, a lot of communities would move closer to the rail tracks to move their goods and services to other parts of the country.
Chief Oguntunde therefore appealed to the Oyo State government to prevail on the Federal Government to make budgetary provisions in the 2026 federal budget to accommodate the extension project.
Chief Oguntunde equally appealed to the federal government to complete the Ikere Gorge dam located at Iseyin which has been abandoned for the past four decades, which he described as input of development.
According to Chief Oguntunde, the multi-purpose dam when completed would serve the entire people of the South West, not only in the electricity supply but also provision of clean and portable water.
He equally noted the possible contribution the dam could make in irrigation projects through lower Ogun river basin authority.
He therefore appealed to the Oke-Ogun residents to join hands with the federal government in the development of the area.
