In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the party said though the celebration was solemn, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it was significant because it affirmed the defeat of death and the hope of salvation for mankind.

In a related development, the statement also quoted NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed as commiserating with the Catholic Church in Nigeria on the passing of Pope Francis.

Ahmed noted the passing of Pope Francis on Easter Monday and the spiritual relevance in his episcopal stewardship while on earth, saying the late pontiff was a true servant of God.

According to him, Pope Francis was dedicated to the tenets of his calling throughout his life and will be remembered for his devotion to humanity.

“We duly commiserate with the Roman Catholic Church in Nigeria and worldwide on the passing of Pope Francis today in Rome. It is a painful exit for this exemplary pontiff but the consolation is that Pope Francis left indelible legacy of courage and love to the world especially among the poor. It is a testament to his avowed humanity. May his soul find peace with the Lord”, Ahmed was quoted in the statement.
