Irate fans of Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan on Sunday threw caution to the wind by laying siege at the stadium premises for the center referee of the home match against visiting Ikorodu City Football Club at the Lekan Salami stadium during the match 22 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) .
The fans were enraged due to what seemed as glaring penalty calls against the visiting team ignored by Mrs Alabi during the match which eventually ended goalless.
Shooting Stars Football Club needed three points to leapfrog Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia which were in 48 points match but were denied by the center referee Alabi.
Ikorodu City started well by dictating the pace of the match with the control of the game through the midfield until about the 16 minutes into the game when the homers took over.
The situation continued this way until when the center referee referee began to ignore obvious penalties calls in favour of Shooting Stars leading to the fans throwing bottles water and sachets water to the reserve bench of Ikorodu City.
The fans were also annoyed that the visitors were about to get another one points in addition to the the three points they had earned against their team in Lagos during the first stanza and possibly denied their team the opportunity of climbing to the third position at the expense of Abia Warriors of Umuahia and thus be positioned for a continental ticket.
All the foregoing led to the fans deciding to vent their spleen on referee Alabi whom they identified as the main cause of the inability of Shooting Stars to win the encounter.
The fans eventually went home when the referee was whisked away by the security officials in an unknown vehicle followed by that of the homers and Ikorodu City Football Club around 9 PM.
