
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UcheKinze Limited, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, Sir Kinze Isaac Okonkwo, has emphasized that unity, genuine love, and cooperation are essential for fostering peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.

Sir Kinze made this statement in Ibadan while receiving Peace Ambassador Award from the management of Oodua News Newspaper on the occasion of his birthday.

The event was attended by key figures, including the Editor of Oodua News Newspaper, Comrade Richard Thomas, the Deputy Editor, Mr. Bode Akinbode, the company’s Webmaster, Mr. Wale Adewumi, and other distinguished guests.
Also in attendance were the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Oyo State Chapter, Hon. Umeh Okechukwu, the Public Relations Officer, Charles Tochukwu Obasi, Chief Emmanuel A. Ezenwamma, former Chairman of Iwo Road Traders Association Ibadan and others.

Speaking at the occasion, Sir Kinze Okonkwo urged Nigerians to embrace true unity and love, which he believes will help reshape the country’s future. He encouraged a shift away from negative historical narratives, calling for greater understanding and cooperation among citizens.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition and surprise honour, Sir Kinze described the award as unexpected but deeply appreciated:

“I appreciate the management of Oodua News Newspaper for this honour. It was sudden and surprising, but a wonderful gesture. This recognition reminds me that at a certain stage in life, a person no longer belongs to themselves alone. You have shown me true love and respect. On behalf of my family, I thank you all.”
At a grand reception held at Davies Hotels, Bodija, Ibadan, Hon. Umeh Okechukwu, President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Oyo State Chapter, praised Sir Kinze Okonkwo as a visionary leader and role model.
“Sir Kinze Okonkwo is a man of integrity and strong leadership qualities. He has earned the admiration of many in Oyo State, across Nigeria, and even beyond. His dedication to unity and progress is truly commendable.”
Hon. Okechukwu further encouraged the Oodua News management and staff to maintain a culture of peace and cooperation within the company to ensure continuous growth.
In his contributions, Charles Tochukwu Obasi, Public Relations Officer of Ohaneze Ndigbo, urged the media to prioritize ethical and factual reporting to avoid misleading the public, adding that the role of the media in a society or nation cannot be over emphasized.
“The media plays a crucial role in shaping society. Objectivity in reporting is essential to prevent misinformation that could cause division or unrest. It is important to learn from leaders like Baba Ayo Adebanjo, who consistently advocated for peace and unity between Igbos, Yorubas, and other ethnic groups.”
He also emphasized the need for media organizations like Oodua News to bridge societal divides, particularly in areas such as politics where disunity often prevails.
“Sir Kinze Okonkwo is a leader whose legacy endures, hence, the reasons he is highly praised and respected for his enduring contributions to peace and development since the 1990s. His leadership, humility, and philanthropic efforts continue to impact lives positively across Nigeria.
The event concluded with expressions of gratitude and well wishes for Sir Kinze Okonkwo as he marked another milestone in his life.
The Deputy editor, Mr Olubode Akinbode in his address said the media organization deem it fit to celebrate and honor Sir Kinze Okonkwo owing to his strides and economic contributions to the state.
Speaking Earlier, the editor, Comrade Richard Thomas said the award was aimed at honouring Sir Kinze Okonkwo for his dedication to ensuring harmony, especially among the Igbo community in Oyo State.
Said he, “This award recognizes your long standing contributions to the peace and stability of Oyo State. Your dedication to ensuring harmony, especially t among the Igbo community in Oyo State has not gone unnoticed. We appreciate your efforts, congratulations.”
