Rotary Club Olambe Transforms Lives with 2nd Edition of RFHD in Otun, Akute

In it’s efforts in expanding Healthcare Access in Otun, Akute and in pursuit of this mission, the Rotary Club of Olambe (RC Olambe)has successfully organized the second edition of the RFHD program for the 2024/2025 Rotary year, bringing essential medical services to residents across five major estates in the Otun area of Akute. 

The program was sponsored by the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and AIDS Prevention to improve the health of the people

The Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) is a global initiative dedicated to providing free and quality healthcare services to underserved communities.

 

With a strong emphasis on preventive healthcare, early disease detection, and health education, the program aligns with Rotary’s mission of serving humanity and promoting well-being.

 

The initiative directly benefited residents which  included Durojaiye Estate, Femi Philips Estate, Palm Estate, Desmond Estate, Harmony Estate and  Olori Otun CDA

For many residents who previously had limited access to healthcare, this was a rare and invaluable opportunity to receive free medical services and vital health education.

On comprehensive Health Services Provided,  the program recorded an impressive 167 participants, all of whom benefited from essential medical services, including:Blood pressure checks, Blood sugar tests, HIV testing and counseling, Malaria screening and General health counseling.

Beyond diagnostics and consultations, free medications and essential health supplies were distributed, including Malaria drugs, Vitamins and Paracetamol, Sanitary pads, Mosquito nets, Eyeglasses

These provisions were aimed at supporting the well-being of beneficiaries and promoting preventive healthcare in the community.

On Community Collaboration and Rotary Involvement, the success of the RFHD program was largely attributed to the strong collaboration between community leaders and Rotary volunteers. The event was actively coordinated by estate leaders, spearheaded by Mr. Owolabi Obiremi, alongside other dedicated estate executives.

The chairmen of the five estates and community leaders were represented at the event and were coordinated by Mr. Owolabi Obiremi to ensure smooth execution and mobilization of residents.

Dedicated community volunteers such as Nurse Esther Titilayomi Olatayomi, Mrs. Uduak of Durojaiye Estate, and other passionate individuals played key roles in making the initiative a success.

Rotary Presence and Volunteer Support has immense impact on the  programme as it was graced by 12 Rotarians, 4 Rotaractors, and 2 Prospective Rotarians, all of whom actively participated in the event, reinforcing the spirit of service and community impact. Their collective efforts played a crucial role in the seamless execution of the project.

Transformative Impact and Community Response on the  program commenced with an orientation session at 9:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2025, setting the stage for a full day of health interventions and wellness advocacy.

 By 4:30 PM, the event concluded with community interviews, where residents expressed heartfelt appreciation for the life-changing initiative.

According to a resident, “This initiative has brought healthcare closer to us in ways we never imagined. We are truly grateful to RC Olambe and look forward to more impactful projects like this.”

With the successful execution of this second edition of RFHD, RC Olambe has reaffirmed its commitment to Promoting health and wellness, Preventing diseases and  Providing accessible healthcare to underserved communities

The club remains dedicated to expanding its humanitarian reach, ensuring that no community is left behind in the journey toward quality and affordable healthcare.

This milestone served as a stepping stone for future health interventions, strengthening Rotary’s role as a beacon of hope and service in communities that need it most.
