He stated that without the governor’s political goodwill, the tourism sector in the state would not have thrived as it has.

In an interview with Oodua News Newspaper in Ibadan, Dr. Olatunbosun noted that the transformation began during Governor Makinde’s first term. He highlighted the governor’s investment in infrastructure as a key factor in the success of the culture and tourism sector.

“The infrastructural facilities provided by Governor Makinde have greatly connected all the zones in the state, creating opportunities for growth in the tourism sector,” he said. “For example, we are currently working on connecting the Ibarapa and Ibadan zones through the Ido/Eruwa.”

He also praised the governor’s Light Up Oyo project, which has improved night-time businesses and tourism activities across the state. Furthermore, he emphasized how the governor’s commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture has created a conducive environment for tourism to flourish.

Dr. Olatunbosun while describing Oyo State as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, credited Governor Makinde’s leadership for attracting both visitors and investors. “The governor’s goodwill has not only promoted tourism but also created job opportunities in areas such as eateries, hotels, event centers, and nightclubs,” he added.

The Commissioner expressed pride in his ministry being recognized as the third-best performing ministry during the Oyo State Civil Service Productivity Day. He described the honor as a motivation to work harder.

“I am delighted about the award given to my ministry by Governor Makinde,” he said. “For nearly six years in this administration, I have worked tirelessly to excel in every role I’ve been assigned. Coming third out of over 20 ministries is an impetus to achieve even more for the state.”

Dr. Olatunbosun highlighted his efforts in revitalizing Yoruba culture, which had been overshadowed by Western influences. He stressed the importance of culture as a cornerstone of development.

“Culture is essential for human development,” he explained. “If well-packaged, it can drive tourism and economic growth. Tourism, after all, is full of cultural activities.”

One of his notable achievements was the recognition of the Sango Festival by UNESCO, a milestone he attributed to years of dedication to resuscitating Yoruba heritage. He also pointed to the increasing popularity of the Iyake Suspended Lake, a natural wonder in the state, as evidence of the impact of his efforts.

Dr. Olatunbosun urged the people of Oyo State and the Southwest to embrace and celebrate Yoruba culture. He emphasized that the ministry’s success is tied to ensuring security and creating an enabling environment for cultural and tourism activities to thrive.
