Gender-Based Violence: Afijio LG Chairperson leads campaign against GBV

In her bid to complement the efforts of the Wife of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Her Excellency Engr. Mrs. Taninominini Olufunke Makinde on a campaign against Gender-Based Violence in Oyo State, the Wife of the Executive Chairman Afijio Local Government Chief Mrs. Kehinde Iyabode Aikomo led women in her council on a campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The theme for this year’s campaign is; “ORANGE THE WORLD: END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN NOW! “
The campaign is aimed at ensuring Safety, Equality, and Respect for women and girls in all aspects. That is; it is aimed at creating a world where women and girls are free from violence, live in dignity, and have the freedom to claim their rights at all levels.
The gender-based violence can be physical or emotional such as; sexual abuse, domestic violence, early or forced marriage, verbal abuse at work, wife battering, hate speech on the internet, and the likes

The campaign started at the local government secretariat with a health talk on the implications of gender-based violence delivered to girls students of the Community Secondary School Jobele by two Speakers; Dr. Temitope Ajibola – a medical expert from Lagos State and TPL (Mrs)Idowu Ogunkalu and later moved to Jobele environments to Elekara market and other popular spots within the local government.

In her address; the Chairperson Afijio Local Government Chief Mrs. Kehinde Aikomo charged the victims of gender-based violence to promptly report the case to law enforcement agencies or the social welfare unit in Afijio Local Government.
She further calls on well-meaning Nigerians, government agencies, and organizations, to join this campaign to eradicate gender-based violence in our society.

Personalities at the event include; Hon. Emmanuel Olufemi Aikomo- Executive Chairman of Afijio Local Government, the wife of the state Honourable member Afijio LG- Hon. Mrs Oparinde, wife of the Vice Chairman – Alhaja Sekinat Adegoke, Wives of the Honourable Councillors, the Supervisory Councillor for Women Affairs- Hon. Suebat Ademola, the Head of Local Government Administration – Alhaja Nusirat Adelabu, the Director of Administration and General Services – Mr. David Omotoso, the Director of Finance and Supplies – Mrs Janet Oyedare among others.
