The Muslim community in Nigeria is mourning the loss of one of its most prominent and respected figures, Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello. The revered Islamic scholar passed away at the age of 84.

Born in 1940 in Ibadan, Alhaji Bello was widely recognized for his profound Islamic teachings, fearless sermons, and dedication to unity and peace among the Muslim Ummah. His passing was announced on Friday morning by Alfa Aribidesi of At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, who highlighted the late scholar’s immense contributions to Islamic knowledge.

Renowned Islamic singer Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju, popularly known as Aponle Anabi, also confirmed the news with an emotional tribute on social media.

A Life of Dedication and Truth

Alhaji Muyideen Bello’s journey into Islamic scholarship began in his youth when he chose to live with his uncle, an Islamic scholar, to deepen his understanding of the Quran. His unique blend of formal education and Islamic knowledge distinguished him among clerics of his time.

Known for his eloquence and integrity, Alhaji Bello once remarked, “From my childhood, I was noted for saying the truth no matter whose ox is gored. It is with utmost truth that we should speak God’s words every day.”

Mourning Across Nigeria

Since the news broke, mourners have thronged his Akobo residence in Ibadan to console his family and pay their respects. Social media has been flooded with tributes from followers, students, and admirers who praised his unwavering commitment to truth and enlightenment.

Islamic cleric Sheikh Taofeeq Akeugbagold expressed his grief on Facebook, stating, “Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his Creator. May Allah be pleased with your soul.”

Legacy and Funeral Arrangements

Alhaji Bello’s teachings and fearless advocacy for truth left an indelible mark on the lives of countless Nigerians and beyond. He will be remembered for his tireless efforts in promoting Islamic values and unity.

While official details of his funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, reports suggest that he will be buried according to Islamic rites in Ibadan.

The late Alhaji Muyideen Bello’s legacy as a scholar, teacher, and advocate for peace will continue to inspire generations to come.
