Aare Olagunju, who is also the Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), made this appeal on Monday after his installation as Mogaji at the Olubadan of Ibadanland’s palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

The ceremony drew family members, well-wishers, and community members who gathered at the Olubadan’s palace to celebrate Aare Olagunju, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, on his installation.

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, conferred this prestigious chieftaincy title on Aare Olagunju alongside eight other personalities from various compounds in Ibadan.

Speaking with the newsmen after the installation, Mogaji Olagunju expressed gratitude to his family for deeming him worthy of this role. He emphasized the importance of individuals contributing to their community’s progress and called for peace, unity, and collective support to strengthen Opere Compound’s prominence in Ibadanland.

“As an Ibadan man, our dedication to our community is intrinsic to who we are,” Mogaji Olagunju remarked. “Every indigene should ensure they add value to their community. By doing so, we will promote socio-cultural development and build trust and confidence in our leadership.”

Reflecting on his new role, Mogaji Olagunju shared his surprise, saying, “If someone had told me two months ago that I would become Mogaji, I would have doubted it, given my junior position in the family. However, due to my contributions to the community, they have entrusted me with this responsibility.”

He further outlined his ongoing plans for community development, including youth empowerment and renovation efforts. “I am excited and grateful to God for this honor,” he added.

Dr. Muhammad-Lawal Musa Alongbija, a prominent member of Opere Compound, described Mogaji Olagunju as a role model and pledged to work closely with him to support his leadership.

Dr. Oluwanike Olagunju, the wife of the new Mogaji, expressed her joy at her husband’s installation, stating that his selection was a seamless decision based on his commendable contributions over the years. She described his emergence as a reward for his dedication to the community.
