
Wife of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Olamidun Ogundoyin, has praised women in the state for their contributions to leadership, governance, and community development.
The commendation was given during a women’s sensitization event themed “Give to Gain,” held on Thursday at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Buildings, Secretariat, Ibadan, as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration.
Mrs. Ogundoyin, speaking at the event organised by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), encouraged women to continue mentoring, collaborating, and creating opportunities for others.
Represented by Mrs. Rebecca Oparinde, she also stressed the importance of intentional giving and self-care, urging women to prioritise their well-being while supporting others.
She further charged women to build strong networks of support and empowerment to foster a brighter future for Oyo State and Nigeria.
In her remarks, the Clerk of the House, Barrister Taiwo Muraina-Akinola, highlighted the importance of generosity, collaboration, and sustained support for women’s empowerment. She urged women to expand their roles and remain relevant across all sectors of society.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in Oyo State, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, called on citizens to complement the government’s efforts in supporting and uplifting women and vulnerable groups.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Chairman of PASAN, Oyo State Chapter, Comrade Alade Taofeek, emphasised the need for collective action in advancing women’s causes. She urged stakeholders to invest in education, mentorship, and leadership opportunities for women to ensure sustainable development.
She also reaffirmed PASAN’s commitment to supporting policies that promote gender equality within the parliamentary system.
Delivering a lecture at the event, Dr. Edith Rahaman stressed the importance of self-care and mutual support among women, encouraging them to invest in themselves, support the girl-child, and uplift their communities.
Other stakeholders at the programme, including lawmakers and PASAN national leaders, reiterated the resilience and dedication of women to their families and responsibilities despite prevailing challenges.
They also underscored the importance of women supporting one another, particularly in the face of economic pressures and increasing responsibilities
