Oba Adewoyin was elevated to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Babalola SAN as Ekarun Olubadan, while Oba Alli was promoted to Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland.

The development, followed an earlier communication from the Olubadan’s palace indicating that the affected chiefs had requested a deferment due to their inability to attend.
Despite the request, the government maintained its stance, emphasising continuity in traditional administrative processes.

Governor Makinde, represented by his Deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, made the pronouncement at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, in accordance with the state Chieftaincy.
Governor Makinde emphasised that the ceremony was conducted in strict accordance with provisions of Section 20, Subsections (1) and (4) of the Chiefs Law, Cap 28, Vol. 1, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
He noted that adherence to the law is essential to prevent any vacuum or disruption to the well-structured Ibadan traditional system.
Makinde said “There are moments in the life of people when history, culture, and governance converge to produce an enduring legacy. Today is one of such moments.“
“We are not merely gathered to witness a ceremonial rite; we are here to affirm a system that has, for generations, provided structure, order, and identity to Ibadanland.“
“The elevation of these High Chiefs and their subsequent conferment with beaded crowns speak to a tradition that evolves without losing its essence,“ the governor said.
He noted that the event marked “a defining moment in the evolution of the Ibadan traditional institution and indeed, in the cultural history of Oyo State,” adding that it was a privilege to witness the conferment of beaded crowns on distinguished high chiefs who had risen by merit and tradition.
Makinde stressed that the ceremony was not just symbolic but a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to legality and tradition.
“This ceremony goes beyond formality; it represents a deliberate affirmation of our commitment as a government to uphold the rule of law while preserving the dignity and relevance of our traditional institutions.“
“The approval of this conferment is firmly anchored in the Chiefs Law of Oyo State and guided by the established customs of Ibadanland.“
“In line with the provisions of the law, the Executive Governor is vested with the authority to confer beaded crowns on elevated High Chiefs in Ibadanland, hence, this ceremony is being duly conducted.”
He explained that the decision to proceed was necessary to maintain the integrity of the traditional system.
“This step has become necessary to avoid creating a vacuum or distorting the well-structured arrangement of the Ibadan traditional system,” he added.
Reaffirming the importance of traditional institutions, the governor described them as indispensable to societal stability.
“The traditional institution remains a vital pillar of our society, providing continuity, stability, and a sense of identity for our people,” he said.
“Our administration will continue to strengthen collaboration with traditional rulers as key partners in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the state.”
Addressing the newly elevated Obas, Makinde urged them to embrace the responsibilities that come with their new status.
“To the newly crowned Obas, this honour is both symbolic and demanding. It places upon you a higher obligation to lead with wisdom, demonstrate integrity, and serve as custodians of unity within your respective domains.“
“Your conduct in office will not only define your reigns but will also shape the confidence reposed in the traditional system of Ibadanland as a whole.”
He further highlighted Ibadanland’s unique chieftaincy structure, noting its longstanding reputation.
“Ibadanland has, over the years, distinguished itself through a structured and progressive chieftaincy system that commands respect far beyond its boundaries.“
“Today’s event further consolidates that legacy and reinforces its place within our collective heritage,” he said.
Makinde, however, reiterated his administration’s vision of harmonising tradition with modern governance.
“This administration remains resolute in our pursuit of a State where tradition and modern governance work hand in hand to deliver meaningful progress for all.“
“On this significant occasion, I congratulate the newly crowned monarchs and wish them reigns defined by peace, stability, and enduring impact,” the governor stated.
