The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State Chapter, Rev’d (Dr) Elisha Olukayode Ogundiya, has called on Christians across the country and Oyo State in particular to embrace humility and peaceful coexistence, drawing inspiration from the Biblical account of Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Rev’d (Dr) Ogundiya made the submission at the instance of the 2026 Easter celebration, just as he referenced Matthew Chapter 21, noting that Jesus Christ’s decision to ride on a donkey symbolized humility despite being acknowledged as King.

He urged Christians to emulate this virtue, stressing that Christ’s kingship is spiritual and resides in the hearts of individuals.
“My message for Christians in the 2026 Easter celebration is that we should humble ourselves and allow Jesus Christ to reign supreme in our hearts, both believers and unbelievers,” he said.
Commenting on the coinciding observance of Lent and Ramadan, the cleric described the overlap as a divine opportunity for reflection and unity between Christians and Muslims. He emphasized the need for mutual acceptance and peaceful coexistence between adherents of both faiths.
“We may not fully understand why Lent and Ramadan coincided, but God does. The major lesson is that we should accept one another and live together in peace and harmony,” he added.
On the role of Christians in politics, particularly with the 2027 general elections approaching, Ogundiya advised believers to prioritize prayer and spiritual discernment. He cautioned against partisan alignment based solely on political affiliations, noting that such approaches had yielded disappointing outcomes in the past.
“This time, Christians should seek the face of God and His perfect will for Nigeria so that we can get it right in 2027,” he said.
Highlighting achievements recorded under his leadership within 105 days in office, Ogundiya expressed gratitude for progress made within the CAN structure in Oyo State. He noted improvements in infrastructure, unity among members, and increased spiritual activities across the state.
“Within one hundred and five days in office, we have given our office a facelift, and there is peace across all 33 local government areas in Oyo State. We have inaugurated executives in several local governments, including Ibarapa Central, and we continue to witness growth both physically and spiritually,” he stated.
He further disclosed plans for upcoming religious activities, including a major crusade in Ogbomoso, expressing optimism about continued progress under his administration
