A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Concerned Progressives, has warned members against the the use of derogatory language against party leaders calling on members to imbibe discipline and respect for constituted authorities.
The group, reacting to a viral video where a female member of the party, Olubiyi Florence Yetunde, from Atisbo local government area, referred to the Oyo APC Chairman, Otunba Moses Alake, as “Romi”, a term considered insulting.
The group described the remark as “deeply disrespectful” and an affront to the chairman’s dignity, calling for the party to investigate and take disciplinary action against Yetunde.
They emphasized that the party values discipline, unity, and mutual respect, and urged the State Working Committee to sanction her according to the party’s constitution.
The group stressed that allowing such conduct could weaken party unity and damage its reputation, adding that APC must maintain its tradition of discipline and respect for leadership.
“Such a remark is deeply disrespectful and constitutes a serious affront to the dignity of the office of the State Chairman. Baba Alake is widely known for his calm disposition, maturity, and respectful engagement with party members and the public. Making such a derogatory reference to a leader of his standing is unacceptable and contrary to the values of respect and discipline expected within our party.
“Beyond the personal insult, this action has the potential to cause serious damage to the reputation of Baba Alake and undermine the public image of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State. Political parties thrive on discipline, unity, and mutual respect among members. When party members publicly insult party leadership, it weakens internal cohesion and sends a negative signal to the public about the level of discipline within the party.
“It is therefore imperative that the party maintains its tradition of discipline and respect for constituted authority. Allowing such conduct to go unaddressed may encourage further acts of indiscipline capable of weakening the structure and unity of the party.
“In light of the above, we respectfully call on the State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State Chapter, to carefully investigate this matter and take appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the party’s constitution and established guidelines.
“The All Progressives Congress must continue to stand as a party where discipline, respect for leadership, and responsible political conduct remain non-negotiable.
