Former deputy governor, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, has formally assumed office as the Chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the inauguration of a new set of State Executive Committee members expected to manage the affairs of the Party for the next four years. The event which took place today at the Oke-Ado Ibadan State Secretariat climaxed the congresses of the Party in the state for 2026.
The South West Zonal Legal Adviser of the APC, Barrister Kolawole Majaro, administered oath of office on Adeyemo and thirty-five others who had emerged through consensus at the March 3, 2026 State Congress which was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan under the supervision of Amos Gombi-led Committee deployed to the state from the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.
In his speech Adeyemo described his emergence as the new chairman of the APC in the state as another call to service.
“This new State Executive Committee under my leadership is being put in place to add value and strengthen our great Party in view of the challenges ahead of us. I cannot but appreciate all the leaders of the party from within and outside the state for their role in making the recently concluded congresses hitch-free and successful.
“Special kudos also goes to Alh. Fatai Ibikunle, Hon. Afeez Bolaji Repete and other members of the Local Organizing Committee which facilitated the feat recorded.
“We have used the opportunity of the congresses to showcase our collective commitment to unity and harmony as progressives and democrats. It is a new dawn in Oyo APC and I am optimistic that the current atmosphere of peace and togetherness will be sustained before, during and after the next party primaries as we keep our eyes on the goals of securing 90 per cent votes for President Bola Tinubu and reclaiming Agodi Government House in 2027.
“President Tinubu is, no doubt, performing beyond our expectations and the best way to appreciate his good work is to retain him in Aso Villa until 2031. Against all odds, the president is pursuing his Renewed Hope Agenda with vigour and passion while the positive results are being felt in all the sectors of the economy as well as our national life. Therefore, it is imperative we give him the chance of a second term in office so that he can consolidate on his numerous achievements so far.” Adeyemo stated.
He called on party loyalists to support the new leadership in moving the party forward by shunning internal conflicts and anti-party activities that could jeopardise the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the next general election, the APC chairman stressed that victory in 2027 would only be possible if members remain united and focused.
He said: “I am optimistic that come 2027, our party will be in power and for this not to be wishful thinking, we must all come together as one and put behind us any form of division.”
“I want to appeal to all party loyalists and faithful to please assist us in moving this party forward by eschewing all forms of internal fights, unnecessary struggles, anti-party activities and bickering that can affect the chances of the party in the forthcoming 2027 elections.”
“I am optimistic that come 2027, our party will be in power and for this not to be wishful thinking, we must all come together as one and put behind us any form of division.”
Adeyemo also expressed appreciation to the outgoing executives of the party, led by Pharmacist (Alhaji) Olaide Abas, for laying the foundation upon which the new executive council will build.
He further commended the Local Organising Committee for the congress, led by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle alongside various stakeholders, the apex leaders of the party across the 33 local government areas of the state, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, and financiers of the party for their support and commitment.
According to him, the unity rallies organised across the various federal constituencies have strengthened the spirit of cooperation, unity of purpose and cohesion currently being witnessed within the party.
“Before I end this address, I want to pledge on behalf of my colleagues that this EXCO will be fair, just, and will put the interest of the party above any other interest.”
“We are mindful of the plight and fate of party members who have stood solidly behind the party despite the travails.”
“We will be open to dialogue, sincere engagements and constructive criticism. We will not claim we know it all, as we are ready and willing to listen to you all the time and consider your opinions too,” he said.
Adeyemo said Oyo State is willing and ready to join other states currently controlled by the APC, which he noted are about 31 across the country, with the possibility of more in the future.
He urged members to mobilise effectively, set aside past grievances and work towards reclaiming the state for the party in 2027.
“Please, let us mobilise effectively, put behind us past negative occurrences as we set to claim victory and re-enact the good governance of Alhaji Lam Adesina and Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi (Architect of Modern Oyo State), the government I served as Deputy Governor for eight years.”
The APC chairman also used the opportunity to commend the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his economic and political reforms, noting that the administration’s efforts at transforming the nation’s fortunes are well appreciated.
“The President’s untiring effort in changing the fortune of the country is well appreciated. We have no doubt that his second term is well guaranteed as this will enable him complete the good work.”
He concluded by urging party members to return to their respective units, wards and local government areas to resolve any lingering disputes and strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the next elections.
“I hereby plead that we all go back to our various units, wards and local governments to settle any perceived rifts and internal wrangling as we set to reclaim our mandates.”
