Oyo State Governor, Sheyi Makinde has thrown open the governorship ticket for interested aspirants under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) pledging to support any aspirant who rather shows loyalty to the people and development of the state than to himself for personal favour.
He made the announcement during an iftar organised by the state government for Muslim Umar on Thursday at the Government House, Agidi , Ibadan.
The governor, who stated that aspirants can use the logo of the PDP on their various billboards allayed fears of likely defection to the opposition party
Governor Makinde also used the occasion to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC , to make public the new Electoral Act recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu so as to guide the activities political parties as they prepare for the 2027 general elections
His words”I have been reading on social media that I am holding down some aspirants of the party who wants to take over from me.
” We have just brake the fast, you are now free to contest, those who are interested can bring out their billboards and you can use PDP logo, nothing will happen.
” The election timetable is out and according to the timetable, I still have something to say about it. To be honest, as a Governor of Oyo State and one out of the 36 States in Nigeria, I am not sure of what they brought out as Electoral Act, I haven’t seen it or laid my hands on it.
” If I as a governor, haven’t seen the electoral act, I learnt two versions of it are in the public, if it’s true, they must let the entire Nigeria know because it is like a reference book for election in 2027, they should let us know and come clean.
“Bring out the Electoral Act that was assented to by the president so that we can all work according to the that Act. Two versions also exist on the new Tax Act , I have not seen the official one.
” So, help us appeal to those in charge to let us know which rule we are playing with. Having said that, those that are interested to be the governor of Oyo State come May 29, 2027 please come out, show your face , sell yourself to the people of Oyo State.
” Don’t be loyal to Seyi Makinde, be loyal to the people of Oyo State, be loyal to the development of Oyo State and you will have my support.”, he concluded
In attendance at the iftar are ; the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, members of the state House of Assembly, Olubadan’ of Ibadanland Oba Senator Rashidi Ladoja Arusa I, Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland,Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Dauda Makanjuola, Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon Justice Iyabo Yerima, House of reps members, government functionaries and religious leaders among others.
