Chief Adeyemi Olukayode Adegoke (JP) suddenly took ill and passed away at home in the presence of his lastborn son. As preparations were being made to take his body to the mortuary, fate struck again, his wife, Mrs Janet Mojirade Adegoke, collapsed and died in their bedroom shortly after taking a bath to accompany her husband’s remains. She was later pronounced brought-in-dead at the hospital.

In a cruel twist of fate, both husband and wife ended up in the mortuary on the same day.

Their joint burial at St. Matthias Anglican Church, Erin-Osun, was an emotional scene as mourners wept openly while the coffins were brought in side by side. The church overflowed, with community leaders, clergy, friends, and family struggling to hold back tears.

Delivering a sermon titled “Grief Not,” the Vicar, Ven. Kolawole Olaobaju, described the incident as painful, devastating, and unprecedented, urging people not to attribute the deaths to superstition but to accept the sovereignty of God.

Speaking through tears, their only daughter, Opeyemi, said:

“Losing you both on the same day has left me with pain, responsibility, and a longing that never fades… yet I know you would want me to rise and carry forward everything you taught me.”

Tributes poured in describing Chief Adegoke as a man of honour, service, and community impact, while Mrs Adegoke was remembered as diligent, prayerful, full of life, and deeply committed to both church and public service.
