
Fear grips residents of Oloka town in Orire local government area of Oyo state on Tuesday night as suspected bandits attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in the town leaving four forest guards dead, and one other in critical condition.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least five personnel of the National Park Service were Killed during the assault.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said that the attack was carried out by yet-to-be-identified armed men against personnel of the National Park Service.
DSP Olayinka disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Femi Haruna, alongside other security service chiefs, today, visited the affected area to assess the situation firsthand.
He further stated that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, officers of the Mobile Police Force (MPF), and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Nigeria Police Force to the area.
According to him, the deployment is aimed at preventing further breakdown of law and order, restoring calm, and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The police spokesperson assured members of the public that security agencies are fully on top of the situation and urged residents to remain calm while investigations and security operations continue.
