The Oyo State leadership of the Obidient movement has announced that it is now fully aligned and operating within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following what it described as national developments and a historic decision by its principal, former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

In a New Year statement by one of its leaders, Ayo Akinyemi to the Obidient family across the state’s 33 local government areas, the group said the alignment followed Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party and take a frontline role in a coalition that has adopted the ADC as its political platform.

The leadership described the move as a strategic advance rather than a retreat or loss of vision, stating that the ADC has emerged as a coalition party and a convergence point for what it called patriots determined to rescue Nigeria from poor leadership, bad governance and wasted potential.

It added that Obi is a central force in shaping the future direction of the coalition.

According to the statement, the core mission of the Obidient movement remains unchanged, listing its priorities as good governance, accountability, competence, compassionate leadership and the pursuit of a Nigeria that works for all.

It stressed that while the political platform has changed, the group’s values have not.

The Oyo State Obidient leadership called on members across all local government areas, wards and polling units to recommit themselves to grassroots political work.

This, it said, includes full participation in the building of the ADC, engaging in party activities at all levels, mobilising and educating citizens on the vision of a “New Nigeria,” and working in unity with existing ADC members.

The statement emphasised unity, inclusion and bridge-building, urging Obidients to embrace ADC members as brothers and sisters and to recognise that the political “rescue mission” is larger than any single movement or group. It described the coalition as a broad family united by purpose and driven by hope.

The leadership of the group said looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the road would require greater resilience, deeper commitment and increased sacrifice, noting that forces benefiting from Nigeria’s stagnation are organised and must be matched by a similarly organised opposition.

The statement expressed confidence that Nigeria can and will be rescued, and that Oyo State Obidients intended to play a role in that effort through unity and disciplined action in 2027.
