Makinde presents N891bn 2026 Budget Proposal to Oyo Assembly

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde on Monday presented the 2026 proposed budget estimate to the  State House of Assembly  with infrastructure development and education sector taking the lion share.

The governor presented the budget estimate of N891,985,074.480.79  to the lawmakers at the House of Assembly, Secretariat, Agidi , Ibadan. 

The budget, tagged ” Budget of Economic Expansion”  is aimed at  positioning  the State for a production- led- economy. 

The governor stated that 56..3% of the budget estimate will be spent on capital expenditure while recurrent expenditure will take 47. 6 % 

According to him infrastructure will receive N210.25bn  representing 22.55% of the total budget estimate while education receives N 155.209bn representing 17.40% of the budget. 

Health and Agriculture gulped ,N70.848 bn represening 7.94% and N19.98bn  representing 2.24% respectively 

In his address, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin  assured that every monies will be adequately accounted for while the projects impacts positively on the lives of citizens of the state. 

A list of nominees to constitute the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission OYSIEC was also brought before the House and was referred to House Committee on Special Duties for screening and  subsequent confirmation by the legislature. 

The  occasion had in attendance, People’s Democratic Party National Secretary, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, former deputy governors of Oyo State, Engr Hamid Gbadamosi and Bar. Hazeem Gbolarunmi, Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima,  former Speaker,Oyo State House of Assembly,Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Elder Wole Oyelese, Chief Saka Balogun, serving Commissioners, political functionaries, Permanent Secretaries and heads of ministries and parastatals 

Also present are the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Akeem Owoade, Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Laoye Ghandhi, Eleruwa of Eruwaland, Oba Samuel Adegbola  and other traditional rulers in the state
