The Chairman of Umuhu Town Union in Ngor Opala in Imo state, Jude Okechukwu Okereke has posited that all the treason and terrorism charges preferred against the Leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra ( IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are political and trumped up.
Okereke explained that Mazi Kanu is being prosecuted for being vocal and championing the cause of Biafra adding that the IPOB leader should be discharged and released forth with without any condition.
He stated that Mazi Kanu is only speaking the mind of the Igbo who are complaining about marginalization stressing that the issue is real because there is no federal presence in Igbo land hence the reason why Ndigbo are calling for Biafra.
Okereke stated further that Kanu was abducted and brought to Nigeria from Kenya where he was at the time and made to face terrorism and treason charges in order to cow him down noting that the Umuahia born freedom fighter is only asserting his right as a Nigerian.
“ According to the United Nations charter, after fifty years of war in a country and indeed after one hundred years as a country, citizens are free to agitate for their own country if they are not happy with the manner things are being run in their country and that is what Mazi Kanu has been doing” he disclosed.
There is freedom of speech and human right and Mazi Kanu is asserting for his right and calling for Biafra and the Tinubu led federal government is prosecuting him instead of releasing him as ordered by the Supreme Court in one of its ruling recently.
