
Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been affirmed as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
The motion for Oyebanji’s adoption was moved by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Stephen Aribasoye. A total of 885 delegates from the 16 local government areas of the state endorsed Oyebanji for a second term as governor.
The affirmation ceremony, held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, was attended by prominent figures such as Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, former Ekiti State Governor, and his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi,Gov Niyi Adebayo and Erelu Angela Adebayo,as well as Ch Mrs. Biodun Olujimi, former minority Leader of the Senate, and philanthropist Harrison Olaniyi Alonge (HOA).
In his acceptance remarks, Oyebanji expressed special thanks to President Bola Tinubu, APC leadership, and party stakeholders for their support. He promised to continue delivering good governance to the people of Ekiti and urged party members to maintain unity.
The consensus arrangement was approved by the National Working Committee in accordance with party rules and the Electoral Act, following the voluntary withdrawal of the only other cleared aspirant, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, which paved the way for Oyebanji’s affirmation.
Governor Oyebanji’s affirmation is seen as a reflection of his leadership style and the progress made in the state under his administration. He is set to fly the APC flag in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
