The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Victory Support Foundation, Ambassador Olubunmi Oluwafunmilayo Lawal, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Osun State, calling on the government to take urgent action to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Speaking during a Free Health Outreach held in Iwo town, Ambassador Lawal said the increasing presence of herdsmen and cows along major roads in the state raises fresh security concerns.
“Considering the numerous reports on security in Osun State, the road should be promptly attended to. The state of security in Osun is very poor. However, the number one person in the state, the Governor who is supposed to ensure the safety of lives and property, is not doing enough,” she said.
She added that her team encountered several herdsmen along the Osogbo, Iwo Road, describing the situation as a sign of negligence and lack of seriousness on the part of the state government.
“While coming, we saw lots of cows and Fulani herdsmen on the road, which indicates that if care is not taken, the security of the state might be affected,” she said.
Ambassador Lawal, who led the foundation’s team to Iwo for the outreach, also lamented the poor condition of the road linking Osogbo and Iwo, noting that the journey took over an hour due to its bad state.
“There are lots of potholes on the road. Looking at the condition of the road, it portrays that we don’t have a government in this state. Like I heard, during Oyetola’s administration, there was an interstate agreement with Oyo State that established that the road must be done. Unbelievably, Oyo State has started theirs, but Osun has not done anything about the road,” she said.
Ambassador Lawal explained that the Free Health Outreach was designed to serve people across Osun State irrespective of age, gender, or political affiliation, adding that the initiative was inspired by her passion for humanity.
“This Free Health Outreach is inspired by my love for humanity. I dislike seeing people in tears and complaining about their plights. The major objective of the foundation is to wipe tears off the faces of the people, which is demonstrated by organizing this free health outreach,” she said.
A former federal lawmaker representing Iwo Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Amere AbdulGafar Akintayo, said the turnout reflected the importance of the outreach and the people’s appreciation of the initiative.
“People are here for the free health care that covers checkups for diabetes, hypertension and other diseases. Also, people are undergoing eye tests, and whenever the test shows the need for recommended eyeglasses, it’s promptly dispensed to the patient,” he said.
He added that the outreach, which was held on behalf of Alhaji Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), a major governorship aspirant in the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election, was proof of his concern for the welfare of grassroots residents.
Hon. Rahman Ismail Aderibigbe, one of the stakeholders of the AMBO group, Iwo branch, commended the organisers for bringing relief to the people of Iwo community.
“We are here in Iwo town, precisely the venue of the Free Medical Outreach culminating in the dispensing of free eyeglasses and other medical care organised to care for the vulnerable and physically challenged. We thank God for this programme organised by Victory Support Foundation in partnership with South West Progressive Group,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of residents, including the elderly, who benefited from free treatments and medications.
“Just this morning, a woman who complained of eye itching was freely given eye drops and eyeglasses. Many other people with certain health conditions have been cared for. The people of Iwo town are very grateful to the foundation and its sponsors,” he said.
Aderibigbe urged the organisers not to relent in their humanitarian efforts, noting that the economic hardship in the country has made medical care difficult for many citizens.
“Looking at the economic situation of the country, quality medications given to people here can be afforded by only the rich. People who are beneficiaries of today’s programme are praying for the foundation. I also pray that the source of their support will never fail,” he added.
Among the beneficiaries was Uzamot Faizah, a student of Medinah International College, who said she was excited to receive free treatment for her eye condition.
“I appreciate the Victory Support Foundation for the eye medications and tests. I am happy and very excited to have received a free eye test and glasses. Having tested the eyeglass, I can say that there is a difference in my eye condition. I can see clearly with my eyeglasses,” she said.
Another beneficiary, AbdulRasheed Hadiat, from Gidigbo 1, Unit 2, described the outreach as a rare opportunity.
“I came here after receiving information from Hon. Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji’s Free Medical Outreach, which includes free eye care. I’ve been a member of the All Progressives Congress since 1965 and have never benefited from this kind of programme. Surprisingly, the eyeglass which was to be dispensed to me in the hospital at the rate of ₦23,000 was given freely here,” he said.
Hadiat prayed for success for the organisers and sponsors of the outreach.
“I am very grateful to AMBO. I pray that God Almighty will bless him and enable him to realise his ambition of becoming Osun State Governor,” he added.
