Balogun gave the charge during the 6th Anniversary Celebration and Inauguration of the newly elected executives (2025–2027) of the Association of Women Orientations and Sustainable Development in Nigeria (AWON), held at the Women Development Centre, Samonda, Ibadan.

Speaking on the theme “Positioning Women for Greater Impact in Society,” the Commissioner, represented by the Director of Women Programmes, Mr. Diya Ogunjimi, encouraged NGOs to focus on advocacy, empowerment, and education, describing them as vital tools for social advancement.

“NGOs need to be more vigorous in fulfilling their mandates, especially in implementing impactful programmes,” she said. “Some work in food and shelter provision, others in healthcare or empowerment. Each effort counts towards a stronger and more equitable society.”

Balogun expressed satisfaction with AWON’s progress and reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to support and guide NGOs in the state.

“The ministry stands to support and regulate your activities, stepping in where necessary for the development of women and the advancement of society,” she added. “Our doors are always open to assist. We recognize that this work requires sacrifice, commitment, and resilience, and we commend your efforts.”

The Commissioner also urged AWON members to uphold ethical practices, remain focused, and avoid distractions, emphasizing that collaboration among NGOs could create a stronger, united front.

In her valedictory address, outgoing AWON President Comrade Olukemi Akintade (2022–2025) thanked members and her executive team for their dedication and service. She pledged continued support for the new leadership.

“AWON is a women-led and women-focused network of NGOs and community-based organizations committed to providing sustainable livelihood solutions across Oyo State,” Akintade said. “We are proud of our collective achievements and will keep supporting AWON’s mission.”

Also speaking, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ogedengbe, a member of the electoral committee, urged members to maintain unity and cooperation for the association’s continued growth.

In his goodwill message, Dr. Matthew Ayodele, Chairman of the Oyo State Community Chest Council, commended AWON’s efforts, describing the association as a force for social progress.

“We celebrate you, women, for your strength and influence. Your contributions to nation-building cannot be overlooked,” he remarked.

In her inaugural address, the newly elected President, Mrs. Titilope Alli-Adelowo, expressed gratitude to members and partners for their support. She commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion for initiating AWON as a platform to empower women and foster community development.

“We appreciate the vision of our pioneers and the commitment of the outgoing executives. Your legacy has paved the way for our growth,” she said. “As we begin this new chapter, we are committed to taking AWON to greater heights through teamwork, innovation, and service.”

Alli-Adelowo also paid tribute to her late mentor, Evangelist Aminat Kikelomo Alli, whose values, she said, would continue to guide her leadership.
