Founder of Victory Support Foundation (VSF), Ambassador Olubunmi Oluwafunmilayo Lawal, popularly known as Bumac, has expressed concern over the deteriorating state of healthcare in Osun State, urging residents to elect leaders with vision and compassion who will prioritise the welfare of citizens.
Lawal made the call during the Foundation’s Free Medical Outreach held on Sunday at Ifon-Osun, Orolu Local Government Area of Osun State, where hundreds of residents received free consultations, eye screenings, and medications.
She warned that the state’s healthcare system would continue to suffer neglect unless people began to vote wisely and reject leaders who misuse public funds.
“The only way to solve the issue of decline in Osun State’s health sector is by voting right , not for people who will dance around and squander public funds. We must elect leaders with vision and compassion,” she said.
Speaking further, Lawal reaffirmed that her commitment to helping the less privileged is not a recent initiative but a lifelong passion she has nurtured for more than two decades.
“It has been on my mind for years because I have the attribute of giving to people. I have been doing this for over 20 years,” she said. “When we started, it wasn’t about health alone, we began by distributing food to people before expanding to medical care.”
According to her, the Foundation, which was formally established about seven years ago, has reached at least ten local government areas across Osun State, offering relief to thousands through health interventions and empowerment programmes.
“Last year alone, we distributed food to more than 3,000 people and gave out POS machines and market materials to help people generate income,” she added.
Lawal revealed that the Foundation’s humanitarian reach is expanding beyond Osun, with plans underway to extend its medical outreach to Gombe State before the end of the year.
“We have distributed about 2,000 forms to residents of Gombe. Our programmes are not limited to Osun alone,” she noted.
She also shared testimonies from past interventions, including one from Irewole Local Government Area, where a young girl reportedly recovered from a persistent five-year cough after receiving treatment during one of the Foundation’s medical sessions.
Several dignitaries who attended the outreach praised the initiative, describing it as a vital contribution to community development and public health improvement.
Former Osun lawmaker, Hon. Kamil Temitope Oyedele, commended the Foundation for complementing government efforts in the health sector.
“Health cannot be handled by the government alone. Having NGOs like Victory Support Foundation supporting this cause is commendable. After food and shelter, health is the most essential need of the people,” he said.
Also in attendance was Prince Jide Adelaja Akinyooye, who represented Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye III, the Olufon of Ifon. He applauded the organisers and medical team for their selfless service.
“The experience here is impressive. The outreach is open to everyone regardless of background or political affiliation, and that makes it unique. We urge others to emulate this gesture,” he remarked.
Similarly, Adenijeli Taiwo, the APC Youth Leader of Ifon-Osun appreciated the organisers of the outreach and their sponsors for their continuous support of people-centred programmes.
“This programme has benefited many, including my family and friends. People with sight problems, diabetes, and other conditions have received treatment and medications. We appreciate Ambassador Bunmi Lawal for her selfless service,” he said.
The outreach witnessed a large turnout of residents who benefitted from free medical check-ups, health counseling, and drugs, further reinforcing the Foundation’s growing impact in promoting healthcare access and community wellbeing across Osun State
