


In a bid to enhance workers and pensioners welfare, the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board has organized second edition a 2-Day sensitization/ training programme for prospective retirees of both Public Primary Schools and Local Government Staff who are due to retire between September and December 2025 tagged ” Achieving Quality Life After Retirement”.
While delivering his welcome address at the flag-off ceremony held today at the Local Government Staff Training School, Secretariat, Ibadan, the Chairman of the Board, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige appreciated the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde and all the stakeholders for the success recorded in the first edition which took place in 2024 hence the programme is being conducted as a continuing exercise.
The Chairman also said ” the Board deemed it necessary to organize the programme in order to sensitize and enlighten all our prospective retirees on modalities, documentation and procedure of making the processing of their retirement benefits a hitch-free and stress- free.
Hon Ige then highlighted some of the achievements of the Board under the present administration which include increase in the monthly allocation from Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (#250m) to One Billion Naira (#1B) for payment of retirement benefits. Also, payment of #25B out of #36B backlog of gratuity inherited from previous administrations and many more .
In his address, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board ( SUBEB) , Dr Nureni Adeniran represented by the the Director of Personal, Mrs Adegbenjo commended the management of Local Government Staff Pension Board for being consistent in organizing the sensitization training programme for prospective retirees which has been yielding positive results.
According to her “this programme is exemplary and commendable being comformed with the agenda of the present government. So, I am using this avenue to implore you all to desist from patronizing touts but embrace the advantage of this training programme for your own benefits”
Also speaking at the event, the State Secretary Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter, Com (Dr) Olusegun Abatan said Governor Seyi Makinde has made giant strides in the pension sector of the state and then advised the participants to find something to do after retirement and bond with family members and friends “
Com Abatan also described Governor Seyi Makinde as the best governor in terms of welfare of pensioners.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alhaji Lukman Akinola Muraina said ” at the end of the training programme the participants will have knowledge of functions and responsibilities and roles of relevant agencies involved in the processing of their retirement benefits, funds management and financial security in retirement, age related diseases and physical wellness in retirement , they will be aware of corrupt practices and damage control, curbing extortion of prospective retirees and we have assembled an array of highly experienced , intelligent professionals and experts in various fields including labour leaders”.
In his goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Establishment and Training , Alhaji Siju Lawal said ” the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde has paid total sum of #92B so far as gratuity both state and Local Government. The governor also embarked on massive infrastructure development across the state.. This is highly commendable” .
The resource persons drawn from various backgrounds include Dr Risikat Busari, Dr Oyewole Tunde Aremu, Dr Monday Famakin, Mrs Adegbenjo, Alhaja Rahman, Mr Sola Akinsola, Mr Akinsoji Akintola, Com Dosu Akinpelu, Barrister Gbenga Adegoke, Mr Salaudeen, Mr Ayodele Aderibigbe, Dr Taiwo Ayanlowo, Alhaji Muniru Adesope and Mr Ayuba .
Dignitaries that graced the occasion include Commissioner for Establishment and Training represented by the Director of Manpower Development Services, Mr Ojo Adebowale , Chairman of Ido LG, Hon Sheriff Adeojo, Chairman of Ibadan North West LG, Alhaji AbdulRahman Adepoju, Permanent Secretaries, Auditor General for Local Government Mogaji Ismail Bioku, NUP leaders.
Others are Chairman of NUT, Com Raji Oladimeji, AOPSHON Chairman Com. Ilori Isola , Heads of Local Government Administration, retired HLGAs, NUP state Chairmen both primary school teachers and local government staff, Com Dosu Akinpelu and Alhaji Muniru Adesope respectively, Directors of Local Government Staff Pension Board, Pension Desk Officers across the zone and NUP branch Chairmen among others.
