The call was made by  Iya Oba Isin Kingdom in Kwara State, Chief (Mrs) Olayinka Latinwo, during an interview with Oodua News at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

Chief (Mrs) Latinwo emphasized that traditional rulers remain the closest link to the grassroots and therefore must serve as a voice for their people by communicating their needs and concerns to government.

“The role of royal fathers in governance includes protecting the interests and well-being of their people. They must ensure that the gap between government and the grassroots is bridged. For instance, the Ooni of Ife has remained committed to the welfare of his people and Yorubaland as a whole,” she said.

Chief (Mrs) Latinwo, an entrepreneur commended Oba Ogunwusi for his dedication to the progress of Ile-Ife, Osun State, and Yorubaland since his ascension to the throne, describing him as a unifier, a peace ambassador, and a king of impeccable character.

“Kabiyesi has consistently reached out to the people in various forms of assistance. He is a listening monarch and a father full of compassion. His reign has brought immense transformation, and he continues to be a blessing to Yorubaland. I pray for God’s wisdom, long life, and a peaceful reign for him,” she added.

Chief Latinwo, who visited the palace alongside several traditional rulers from Kwara State to pay homage to the Ooni, advised other monarchs to continue making meaningful contributions to the lives of their subjects in order to drive development at the grassroots.

She further called on government to accord traditional rulers greater recognition in governance, noting that their roles in community service and local development cannot be underestimated.

“Traditional rulers must remain committed to supporting their people and bridging the gap with government to ensure improved livelihoods at the grassroots,” she said.
