The Oyo State government has urged traditional religious leaders and other stakeholders to make indigenous culture and heritage attractive to younger generations and the global community.
Governor Seyi Makinde gave the charge at the Isese Day celebration held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Development, Wasiu Olatunbosun, Governor Makinde noted that this will not only preserve tradition but also increase its acceptability and practices.
He highlighted the administration’s efforts in accommodating and preserving traditional heritage, citing the UNESCO enlistment of the Sango festival in 2023, a first of its kind in Yorubaland.
While assuring traditional religious leaders of continuous support, Governor Makinde charged them not to relent in praying for his administration.
In their welcome addresses, the Araba/Olu-Isese of Ibadanland, Ifalere Odegbola, and the Aare Isese of Oyo State, Chief Omikunmi Egbelade, described Isese as a path of peace, tolerance, and respect for humanity.
The traditional leaders acknowledged the present administration’s tireless efforts in accommodating traditional worshippers and promoting religious tolerance, noting that unity is essential for preserving traditional heritage.
The event featured a series of cultural performances and was attended by traditional rulers, politicians, government functionaries, and traditional worshippers across Oyo State.
