
The duo of Mathias Gofwen and Charity Agbofure from Plateau and Delta states respectively have emerged champions of the 12th edition of the Ibadan city 42 kilometer marathon race organized by Splash Fm sponsored by Oyo state government with technical partnership of
Gofwen emerged the male champions with a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes and 24 seconds while Agbofure became champions in the female category with a time of 3 hours,7 seconds.
Gotwen thus went home with the sum of one million, two hundred thousand naira prize money earmarked for the male winners while Agbofure carted home the sum of eight hundred thousand naira being the amount set aside as prize money for winners in the female category.
The duo of Friday Yohanna and Illiya Emmanuel Dung from Plateau state however won as runners up and second runners up and therefore won for themselves the sum of five hundred thousand naira and three thousand naira respectively in the male category.
Yohanana won with a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes and 31 seconds just as the second runners up Dung returned a time of two minutes, 37 seconds.
The runners up in the female category was Elizabeth Nuhu Power while the second runners was Erinle Olude Fadekemi from Abeokuta , Ogun state.
Other winners were Nyango Gyang Boyi , and Dang Joel Ahmadu from Plateau state who came fourth and fifth in that order with time of 2 hours, 37 seconds and43 seconds for the former.
Earlier , former President candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 Presidential election and human right activist, Omoyele Showore participated at the annual 42 marathon race in the 5 kilometer race where he ran for a course.
Showore stated after his race that he was running for good governance in the country and against corruption and all manner of vices being perpetrated in Nigeria.
He enjoined other well meaning Nigerians to do same as marathon is not meant for the young but for everyone who alive adding that this is what obtains in the United States of America (USA) and Britain where he noted that the event is being used to boost of the local economy of the place where the event is done.
Showore urged Nigerians to join the struggle to make Nigeria a better place than it is at the moment.
