Barely 48 hours to Saturday , August 16 2025 bye- elections, , the Oyo State candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Islamiyat Abdulkadir, will be on ballot papers and voted for in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election , its Oyo State Party Chairman, Hon. Michael Okunlade has assured.
Hon. Okunlade gave the assurance in a statement released in Ibadan, on Thursday.
Five candidates, excluding SDP, contesting the forthcoming bye-election in the state, on Wednesday, signed a peace accord, at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ibadan, the state capital.
The party candidates are Femi Akin-Alamu of African Democratic Congress, ADC; Adewale Olatunji, All Progressives Congress. APC; Olabisi Odususi, All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA; Fola Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and Hammed Badmus of Zenith Labour Party.
However, a statement by the SDP chairman in the state, Hon Okunlade, stressed that non-listing the party for the first instance could not affect the SDP chances as the party has already done it underground work in the nooks and crannies of the Constituency.
He said, “I am glad to inform you that the Court has ruled this morning (Thursday) in favour of our party in a suit it filled against Independent National Electoral Commission for the non-listing of its candidates across the 12 Federal Constituencies nationwide in the list published by the commission.
“Considering the merits of SDP arguments, the Court has ordered the electoral commission to: accept the candidates of the party for the bye-elections; to publish and ensure the names appear on the election materials for the elections.
“Not withstanding the temporary setback occasioned by the wrongful action of INEC against the party in not listing our candidates, campaigns of the SDP candidates have been in top gear since their emergence in the party primaries, and they are set for victory at the polls on Saturday, considering their popularity and massive campaigns,” the state party chairman, Okunlade affirmed.
