In fulfillment of their constitutional mandate to promote good governance and ensure accountability, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly embarked on oversight visits to all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.

The comprehensive exercise, which involved all state legislators, was structured along the three Senatorial Districts — Oyo North, Oyo Central, and Oyo South. The primary aim is to assess financial management, including Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) performance and expenditure patterns, as well as to inspect ongoing and completed developmental projects at the grassroots level.

The lawmakers’ inspection covered a wide range of focus areas, including 30km internal road projects, budget implementation, income and expenditure analysis, deployment of earth-moving equipment, SUBEB-funded primary school projects, primary healthcare facilities, meetings with local security stakeholders, and interactions with traditional rulers in each local government area.

Addressing political heads and civil servants during the visit to Ogbomoso South Local Government, the overall Chairman of the oversight exercise and Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters, and State Honours, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, described the initiative as a strategic effort to promote effective resource utilization and foster development at the grassroots.

“The Oyo State House of Assembly is deeply committed to ensuring that LGAs and LCDAs operate under the principles of good governance and accountability. This oversight visit is a vital step towards achieving that goal,” Hon. Olajide stated.

He further emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains focused on improving the living standards of residents, and urged local government chairmen to align with the Governor’s vision of a progressive and inclusive Oyo State.

“The 10th Assembly will continue to work collaboratively with the local governments to advance sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all citizens,” he added.

In his remarks, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, who led the oversight team for Oyo North Senatorial District and represents Ibadan North II State Constituency, urged local government chairmen to uphold transparency, accountability, and timely execution of projects, while ensuring the delivery of essential public services.

Similarly, Hon. Dele Adeola, representing Iseyin State Constituency and the team leader for Oyo Central, addressed officials at Atiba Local Government, Offa-Meta in Oyo Town, and Sooro LCDA, Oke-Isunwin.

He advised them to explore Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and innovative strategies to support development efforts, noting that government alone cannot shoulder every responsibility.

In separate responses, the Chairmen of Ogbomoso South, Atiba, and Olorunsogo LGAs — Hon. Oyedokun Timothy, Hon. Waliu Adetunji, and Hon. Kazeem Olayanju — commended Governor Makinde’s leadership and his commitment to grassroots transformation, citing numerous projects executed under his administration that have brought the dividends of democracy closer to the people.

It will be recalled that Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, recently announced the constitution of three sub-committees tasked with overseeing the 33 LGAs and 35 LCDAs across the state’s senatorial zones.

The teams are led by:

Oyo South: Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, Majority Leader of the House

Oyo Central: Hon. Dele Adeola

Oyo North: Hon. Olusola Owolabi

The oversight initiative is expected to enhance transparency, encourage better project execution, and reinforce the legislature’s commitment to accountable governance in the State.
