Chairman of Isu/Okoma Progressive Union in Oyo state, Jerry Chijioke Uzor has said that the Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 election Peter Obi is sincere with his decision and declaration that he would not seek for a second term of votes in as President in 2027.
Speaking in Ibadan while reacting to the opposition to the statement, Uzor who is also a staunch member of the Oyo state Ohanaeze Ndigbo noted that Obi knew what he was doing before making such decision and declaration.
He pointed out that the former Labour Party Presidential candidate took the decision because he would not want what happened to former President Dr Goodluck Jonathan to happen to him in 2015 when he sought for re election instead of stepping down and allowing a northern candidate to vie in the color of the People Democratic Party (PDP).
He explained that Dr Jonathan lost because he disallowed the north to produce a candidate for the PDP when it was their turn to produce a candidate in place of late Musa Yar’adu who died in office in 2009 adding this was so due to the unwritten agreement that power must rotate between north and south and not otherwise.
Jerry observed that Peter Obi has to assuage the fear of the north that he would not renege if they help make him President in 2027 positing that whoever has the power to install as they did in the case of Dr Jonathan in 2011 equally has the power to remove as it happened to the later in 2015.
The Isu/Okoma boss stated that the former Anambra state Governor knows that he will need the north to be President hence the reason he has bESN stretching the hands of fellowship to the northerns by way of visitations and donations in cash and kind among other things.
He said further that Peter Obi is a principled man who will not go back on his promise because of his antecedents which speak well of him as a man of his words as Anambra Governor stressing that these among other reasons stand him in good stead as one who can be trusted.
