The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of ₦299.8 billion, raising the state’s total 2025 budget from ₦684.1 billion to ₦984 billion.
Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, Finance, and Appropriation, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola (Egbeda Constituency), confirmed the approval to journalists shortly after Thursday’s plenary session.
He explained that the supplementary budget was necessary to cover several critical expenditures not captured in the original 2025 budget passed last year.
These include the reconstruction of the Government House, payment of workers’ pensions, and provisions for implementing the new national minimum wage.
“The reality of the state’s financial obligations in the current fiscal year required a reassessment.
This supplementary appropriation reflects the dynamic nature of governance and the need to respond to emerging priorities,” Babalola said.
Following the passage, the Assembly announced the commencement of its working recess, during which lawmakers will carry out oversight functions in their constituencies, monitoring state government projects to ensure alignment with budgetary provisions.
Hon. Babalola noted that the supplementary allocation would strengthen infrastructure development and social welfare across the state, especially amid rising economic demands and inflationary pressures.
Governor Seyi Makinde had, in late 2024, presented the original ₦684.1 billion budget for 2025, which the Assembly passed into law before the supplementary increase.
