

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital have been advised to avoid gatherings or designated routes during the 2025 festival of masquerades in the ancient city.

The advice was contained in a press release signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations Unit of NYSC in the state, Mrs Faniyi Abimbola, urging female members of the Corps to avoid any gathering meant for masquerade in Ibadan
“This is to inform all female Corps members serving in Ibadan that the annual traditional Egungun (Oloolu) festival has been scheduled to hold from Monday 28th to Thursday 31st July, 2025.
“As part of the longstanding cultural traditions, the masquerade will pass through Oje, Gate, Oja-Oba, Ayeye, Orita-merin, Beere, Oranyan, Idi-arere, Agugu, Oke-Aremo, Oremeji, Olubadan Palace amongst other routes.
“It is forbidden for females/women to see the masquerade, therefore, we strongly advise all our female Corps members to abide by this tradition whenever the masquerade is passing throug
“Do not attempt to film or photograph the masquerade or in anyway attempt to question or challenge the rites of this tradition. Comply with local advice and instructions from community leaders and security personnel.
“Corps members are also advised to avoid any gathering around the masquerade’s designated routes during the festival. Do not attempt to film or photograph the masquerade or in anyway attempt to question or challenge the rites of this tradition. “We also use this medium to appeal to the leadership of transport unions in Oyo State to direct all their members not to carry our Corps members and prospective Corps members through dangerous routes during the festival.
“Please take to these precautionary measures, as the management of the National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State under the leadership of Mr. Kayode Ola Peters remain committed to your welfare and safety, the statement read.
