The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Oyo State have been charged to adopt the ideals of progressivism in the selection process for the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.
A former Public Relations Officer ( PRO) of the party in Oyo state,Hon. Dauda Kunle Kolawole gave the charge on a release made available to newsmen, emphasizing the need for leaders and members to align themselves with progressive ideology, describing it as a force that prioritizes selfless service to humanity.
According to Kolawole, the APC’s current state is characterized by a mixture of heterogeneous elements with different cultural and ideological backgrounds, leading to friction and chaos.
He noted that progressivism is an entity that operates based on principles of selfless service, which is in line with natural law and God’s law.
Kolawole lamented that the APC has been hijacked by individuals with questionable backgrounds, who prioritize personal gain over the party’s ideals. He advocated for a selection process that prioritizes loyalty, commitment, and moral integrity, rather than just awarding tickets to the highest bidder.
Drawing parallels with Nigeria’s creation in 1914, Kolawole noted that the country’s development gap between the North and South has led to insecurity and other challenges. He called on Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as the country’s first progressive president, as he works to close this development gap.
Kolawole urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu in his efforts to build a more united and prosperous country, regardless of tribe, religion, or party affiliation.
