Influential Oyo State politician, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has disclosed details of a private meeting with Chief Adegboyega Adegoke, a 2027 governorship aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Olopoeyan, the discussion centered on Adegoke’s political ambition and his intention to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde.
Speaking exclusively with Westernmirror.com.ng on Thursday in Ibadan, Olopoeyan confirmed that Adegoke, the Chairman of an Ibadan based privately-owned radio station, visited his residence to officially inform him of his decision to run for governor in the 2027 general elections.
Olopoeyan expressed his support for Adegoke, citing his leadership competence, business acumen, and grassroots connection as reasons for endorsing him.
He equally called on other politicians across party lines aspiring to succeed governor Seyi Makinde to make their aspirations known early enough saying such move would revitalize political activities within political parties.
He maintained that Chief Adegoke has made his intention known to him and that others who are also jostling for the Agodi Government House should come out with their aspirations.
“Gboyega is a versatile man I have watched grow in public service and private sector leadership.
“As the Chairman of a radio station and other chains of businesses across the country, he has not only empowered many youths in Oyo but also demonstrated the kind of leadership vision that Oyo State needs going forward in line with the sustainable development agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde.
“Gboyega is not the only one with this aspiration, there many others, none of them should sit on the fence till a time it may be too late for them to begin wider consultation because politics is deep and one hour is a luxury of time for events to take new twists.
“I will surely support Gboyega to succeed governor Makinde, who is my very intimate friend, that is if he eventually clinched the governorship ticket of his party, the PDP because so, far, he is the only one who has come out publicly to make his intention known.
“I know governor Makinde so well, he is a man of great principles built on equity, fairness, and justice, and that is why his political reputation has continued to soar high even among his colleagues at the national level.
“So, nobody should entertain any fear of coming out because I believe that even though the governor, being the leader of PDP in Oyo state and the entire South west, I believe that he would still send everybody to the field to work to earn their chances, even though he may have his personal interest,” Olopoeyan said.
He revealed that his relationship with Adegoke goes beyond politics, describing it as deeply rooted in family ties unknown to many.
“Adegoke has everything required by law and financial might to succeed the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, come 2027,” he added.
