The Secretary of Ogunpa Fancy Traders Association and staunch member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Oyo state Jerry Chijioke Uzor has advised the state government to create functional fire stations in markets in the state.
Speaking in Ibadan while reacting to the fire incident at Alesinloye market recently, Uzor said functional fire stations should be created in the markets in Oyo state besides government embarking on programs which sensitizes the traders.
He explained that the enlightenment program should be on radio and tv while traders on their own should know the kind of electronic equipment they can have and use in markets.
The Ohanaeze staunch member stated that there should also be a central control system where electricity in markets can be switched off and on in the market in the morning when markets resume and in the evening when it is closing.
He said that certain electrical equipment should be outlawed because of the disaster it can cause noting the idea of allowing traders to use any electronic equipment should be banned in order to forestall fire disaster.
Uzor however urged Oyo state government to intervene in the plight of the victims of the fire disaster at Alesinloye market bearing in mind that most traders are operating with loans which they pay regularly positing that this should be done in collaboration with the Iya Loja and Babaloja in the market in order to bring succor to the traders who lost goods worth millions of naira to fire disaster at the market.
The Secretary opined that the traders need assistance due to the situation they now find themselves because of the fire disaster stressing that many of them lost goods running into millions of naira while they have no fund with which to begin afresh because they are on loans.
