The Vice Chairman of Igbo Traders at Alesinloye market in Ibadan , Henry Orji has said that policy summersault can be adduced as the reason fire disaster occurred frequently at the market.
Recalled that fire inferno occurred at the market recently during which goods worth millions of naira was ravaged by the disaster with over 500 hundred shops burnt down .
Orji stated that inconsistency in policy execution has been the bane of the administration of the market saying the lack of will power to continually enforce policies was responsible for the inability of the fire fighters to quickly access the scene of the incident apart from the fact that the fighters lack equipment and were not even available during the incident.
He noted that there was no single staff of the fire fighters that was available during the beginning of the fire noting that they only came when the fire had gained traction and had already consumed some shops before they came.
The Vice Chairman explained that this was unacceptable as they would have known what to do if they were around stressing that even when they around, they lacked the energy to carry out the task as they were assisted by many Igbo traders and fire fighters from Sumal foods which came with their fire fighters and tanks of water.
While condemning the fire fighters for their role, he revealed that steps would be taken to assist some of their colleagues who were involved pointing out the fancy session which he belongs to would know what to do just as they are helping to find 10 roles of cloth materials which got missing in his shop recently.
