The former Chairman of Curtain Traders Association of Alesinloye marketAmbrose Okeoma has urged Oyo state government led by Engr Seyi Makinde to assist the victims of the fire disaster which occurred at the market recently.
Speaking in Ibadan Okeoma noted that the fire incidents were becoming too many with government being unable to find lasting solution to the matter.
He explained that this would be the third time fire disaster would ravage the market with the issue being lack of water to quench it adding that this was unpalatable since those saddle with the responsibility have failed to live up to expectations.
“ This is the third time we had had this fire issue. One was during late Governor Abiola Ajimobi tenure and another was four year before Ajimobi’s administration “ he stated.
“ During all the time, the issue of lack of equipment has also always been the issue and this is not good for our development and well being as a people and government “ Okeoma added.
He therefore advised Oyo state government to assist the victims of the fire disaster stressing that they will need all the financial assistance they can get in order to carry on with their lives.
“ Government should come to the aid of the victims because they need money now. During the last fire incident when I was involved, the sum of #50k was given to each victims even though it was small but it was something” he revealed.
“ Government should assist them with money now and ensure that they rebuild their shops without taking it away from them because if government does it by itself, then the shops will go into new hands “ Okeoma pointed out that.
