Oyo Police clears air on claims circulating over allege attack on farmer by herders in Atiba

The Oyo State Police Command has described as untrue information and claims circulating on some segments of the social media space about an allege attack on a farmer by herders in the vicinity of Ilowa-Gbade Village in  Atiba Local Government Area of the state.

According to a press statement with reference number AZ:5250/OY/PPRO/VOL.6/283 through the Command’s Police Public Relation Officer  (PPRO), CSP Osifeso Adewale Mnipr,  

on behalf of the Commissioner Of Police, CP Johnson Oluwole Adenola (psc), the information shared is an exaggerated portrayal of the actual incident.

Said he, “Contrary to the exaggerated reports, preliminary investigations revealed that a dispute between two individuals over grazing rights on March 21, 2025, led to an altercation between a 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, and a 25-year-old farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu. 

“The Command wishes to dispel recent misleading claims circulating on some segments of the Social Media Space about an alleged attack on a farmer by herders in the vicinity.

“The confrontation, which arose when Isiaka took his cattle to graze on Tiamiyu’s cassava farmland, escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in a severe head injury to the herder, Isiaka and significant injuries to the Farmer, Tiamiyi, including the severance of two fingers from his left hand.

“Both individuals are currently receiving medical intervention at a healthcare facility while a thorough investigation is underway at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku.

Osifeso  urge the public to refrain from disseminating unverified and false information that could incite fear and disturb public tranquility adding that it is inline with the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Oyo State.
