The Oke-Ogun APC Youth Destiny (OKAYD), a group of young All Progressive Congress, APC, members from the Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State, has expressed dissatisfaction with the seeming obsession for partisan politics displayed by some of their leaders, thereby eroding in them self-confidence and integrity.

According to the group, some of their notable leaders have been too quick to defer to external influences from other regions, undermining the region’s integrity and standards within the APC.

Led by its Chairman Hon. Lere Adewuyi, OKAYD has warned political leaders in the region to desist from subjecting themselves to self-acclaimed political lords, particularly those who claim close ties with President Bola Tinubu but lack the courage to engage with him directly.

The group emphasized that Oke-Ogun leaders must assert their confidence and independence, rather than allowing themselves to be “dragged in the mud and give themselves a portrait of sidekicks playing auxiliary role in politics.

OKAYD’s stance is motivated by concerns that the region’s interests are being compromised by the subservient attitude of its leaders whereas the group believes that Oke-Ogun’s integrity and standards within the APC must be protected and promoted.

In a statement, OKAYD noted that the departure or passing of some progressive leaders from the region does not justify the lack of confidence and self-organization among its current leaders. Instead, the group urged its leaders to draw on their inner strength and organize themselves with confidence, ensuring that Oke-Ogun’s voice is heard and respected within the APC.

The warning from OKAYD comes at a time when political tensions are running high in the region.

Recently, there has been controversy over the need for Oke-Ogun to ensure some level of civic, moral and sacred considerations in the personality of anyone who will represent Oke-Ogun people at all levels

Incidents like these highlight the need for strong, confident leadership that can protect the interests of the region and its people.

OKAYD’s call to action is a hint that the youth will no longer tolerate leaders who compromise their values and integrity under foreign influences.

“OKAYD is determined to promote a new era of leadership that prioritizes the interests of Oke-Ogun and its people. We don’t want to lose anymore and it is now the best of time to start preparations to earn our dream,” the statement said

With their bold statement, OKAYD is sending a clear message to their leaders: “… it’s time to stand up and take control of our own destiny,” the group noted.
