Chairman of Abia Youth Association of Oyo State, Henry Orji, has urged the new elected Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General Chief Azuka Mbata to work towards the release the leader of the indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Mazi Kanu is currently in the custody of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in Abuja.
Speaking in reaction to the emergence of Chief Mbata from Rivers state as the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,Orji opined that it was high time worked towards the release of the leader of IPOB leader adding that it is appalling that Mazi Kanu is still being held in the custody of the DSS in spite of the pronouncement of the court that he should be released unconditionally.
He observed that what the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo should be talking about is the release of the IPOB leader noting that his incarceration is the reason why there is insecurity in the south east of Nigeria.
Orji bemoaned a situation where many prominent Igbo men now feel unsafe in their country home to the extent that many even conduct the traditional wedding of Igba Nkwu of the daughters in the south west especially in Lagos , Ibadan and wherever they are based outside Igbo land due to insecurity.
He noted that the areas worst affected is the boundary around Anambra and Imo state where Ihiala, Orsu and Orlu local government are situated stressing that many of the indigenous people of these places have not been home for five years or more due to the state of insecurity in the place.
The Abia Youth Chairman therefore asked the new Ohanaeze President General boss to wade in to arrest the situation pointing out that this is very much unacceptable because it is not a good development.
