Bodija Estate Residents , Ibadan have held a commemoration service in honour of the deceased victims of the January 16th 2024 explosion that rocked Dejo Oyelese street in the estate.
The service was held at Bodija Estate Baptist Church.
Chairman, Bodija Estate Residents Association, Mr. Muyiwa Bamgbose, enjoined relevant authorities to expedite investigation on the cause of the explosion and deal with the perpetrators of the incident.
Mr. Bamgbose, called on government and notable individuals to provide necessary assistance to residents affected by the explosion.
Also speaking, Chairman, Dejo Oyelese Vigilante Group, and former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, called on residents of the estate to be united in safeguarding the community
In a sermon, titled “God Knows” Reverend Kunle Kiyesi, said only God is capable of providing comfort and adequate protection to humans.
In a remark, Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his Executive Assistant on Administration, Reverend Idowu Ogedegbe, said the state government has put in place measures to forestall a reoccurrence..
Governor Makinde while appealing to the victims of the explosion to accept the compensation the state government is planning to give them, urged people of the state to always be security conscious.
Meanwhile a candle light procession was held at half past seven tonight at the epicenter, while a Jum’at service holds tomorrow at Bodija Estate Islamic Centre.
The January 16, 2024 explosion had claimed the lives of some people and injured over 70 individuals, while over 200 houses and many vehicles were destroyed.
